PREMIER EVENT: Combo Breaker 2019 Results
Combo Breaker 2019, held in Chicago, IL, USA from May 24th through 26th, is over and the results are in!
RECIPROCITY|Punk has taken first place, making this his third Premier Event win of the 2019 season! On top of that he also has a 2nd place finish at NorCal Regionals in late March, the only Premier Event he hasn’t won this season! We’ve seen some stretches of dominance by various players over the years but this has been a truly epic performance by Punk.
Punk made it to Grand Finals through the Winners bracket where he faced off against the United Kingdom’s MOUSESPORTS|Problem X, who is a veteran player who is no stranger to going up against the world’s best and has had his own stretches of dominance over the years. Problem X made it all the way to Winners Finals in the Winners Bracket where he faced off against Punk and was defeated 0-3. After eliminating Japan’s YOG|Machabo in Losers Finals he faced off against Punk once more in Grand Finals.
Grand Finals was a tale of two sets with Problem X getting the better of Punk and winning with a score of 3-0. This reset the bracket and the last set would decide the ultimate victor at Combo Breaker. Punk turned the tables and defeated Problem X in the second set 3-0.
Problem X has a 1st place and a second place win at two Ranking Events so far this season. This is his best performance at a Premier Event so far with a 4th place finish at The Mixup in France last month being his prior best placement. Problem X stood at 3rd place on the Global Leaderboard Standings prior to this event and this finish solidifies that position.
At third place is Japan’s YOG|Machabo, who is having the best CPT season so far in his career. He has been very impressive in the last few weeks having made top 13 at The Mixup Premier Event, a 5th place finish at the Versus Masters Ranking Event in late April and a 1st place finish at BAM 11 Ranking Event last week. Machabo was put into Losers with a loss against Japan’s LIQUID|John Takeuchi in top 24 and was eliminated by Problem X in Losers Finals.
