PREMIER EVENT: Canada Cup 2018 Results
Canada Cup 2018, held in Toronto, ON, Canada from October 26th through 28th, has concluded and Japan’s ECHO FOX|Tokido has taken 1st place!
ECHO FOX|Tokido is having arguably his best Capcom Pro Tour season to date. This win at Canada Cup is his 3rd Premier Event win of the 2018 season with the others being Tokyo Game Show in September, BAM 10 in May and NorCal Regionals in April. This is in addition to several high profile 2nd place finishes including Evo! Tokido made it all the way to Grand Finals in the Winners Bracket where he faced off against China’s QANBA DOUYU|Xiao Hai in a thrilling match-up. Xiao Hai won the first set 3-2 to reset the bracket but Tokido was able to clutch it out with a narrow 3-2 win of his own. Tokido goes into the home stretch with a commanding 1st place lead on the Global Leaderboard with 4,161 points, which is almost 1,200 points ahead of 2nd place!
It was an epic Grand Finals and China’s QANBA DOUYU|Xiao Hai was very close to pulling out a victory at Canada Cup. He’s had a sensational 2018 season as well with 2nd place finishes at 3 Premier Events (the others being SoCal Regionals in September and CEO in July). The only thing that has eluded him thus far is a 1st place finish at a Premier, an issue that Tokido has also grappled with in previous seasons. Xiao Hai was put into Losers Bracket by USA’s ECHO FOX|Justin Wong in Winners Finals with a 2-3 loss. With this placement Xiao Hai moves up to 13th place on the Global Leaderboard with 1,270 points.
USA’s legendary ECHO FOX|Justin Wong made another strong showing, earning 3rd place at the event. Justin has a Premier Event win at Dreamhack Austin in June as well as several Ranking Event wins. After this event he sits at 6th place on the Global Leaderboard with 1,911 points.
