Premier Event: Celtic Throwdown 2019 Results
The results are in for Celtic Throwdown 2019, a Premier Event that took place in Dublin, Ireland from August 31st through September 1st, and Japan’s RED BULL Hx|Bonchan has notched another impressive win! This is Bonchan’s best season so far in an already incredible career, becoming Evo 2019 Champion in early August, winning VSFighting in late July, CEO in late June and taking 3rd place at Taipei Major in early June! With this win he has pulled off a feat that seemed nearly impossible a few months ago; surpassing the USA’s RECIPROCITY|Punk at 1st place on the Global Leaderboard standings!
Bonchan never left the Winners bracket during the competition and defeated Korea’s UYU|NL in Grand Finals 3-1. Bonchan had defeated NL earlier in Winners Finals with a 3-2 win to send him to the Losers bracket. Bonchan is absolutely on fire right now with plenty of time remaining in the 2019 season.
Korea’s UYU|NL put forth his best performance so far this season at 2nd place. He has skirted around the edges of making top 8 in two prior Premier Events with 9th place finishes at VSFighting and Taipei Major. Only Bonchan proved to be a puzzle he could not solve, but at this point few can. He even defeated RECIPROCITY|Punk, the king of the Global Leaderboard until this event, in Losers Finals with a clean 3-0 victory to earn his second shot at Bonchan in the Grand Finals.
We know that RECIPROCITY|Punk thrives under pressure, going to Losers bracket early and then rampaging his way toward the Grand Finals. Here at Celtic Throwdown it happened again, with Punk being put into Losers Bracket in pools in a loss to Japan’s FAV|Ryusei. Once again he blazed a path but this time he ran into a solid roadblock in NL at Losers Finals. It will be interesting to see how Punk responds to losing his top spot on the standings to Bonchan but he’s never backed down from a challenge.
