PREMIER EVENT: CEO 2018 Results
CEO 2018, held in Daytona Beach, FL, USA from June 29th through July 1st, has concluded and Japan’s FUDOH|Fujimura has won his second Premier Event of the 2018 season! His previous Premier victory was at Stunfest in May. Fujimura was undefeated all the way to Winner’s Finals where he was narrowly beaten by China’s QANBA DOUYU|Xiao Hai 2-3. Fujimura then went on to defeat a resurgent NVD|Phenom from Norway 3-1 in Losers Finals to get to Grand Finals, where he got a run-back against Xiao Hai. In Grand Finals he went on to beat Xiao Hai 3-1 in the first set to reset the bracket and then 3-0 to seal his victory.
China’s QANBA DOUYU|Xiao Hai finished 2nd place and Norway’s NVD|Phenom took 3rd place. Both players have had relatively quiet 2018 seasons so far but came back strong at CEO. Xiao Hai’s only placement this season prior to CEO that earned CPT points was a 25th place finish at Combo Breaker in late May. Phenom’s 2018 has had a lot point-earning placements than Xiao Hai but only had one top 16 finish, which was 13th at Stunfest. He does have a 1st place finish at a Europe West Online Event but this is by far his best result at a physical event this year!
It’s also worth noting that CEO’s top 8 was very diverse in terms of nationalities represented, with Japan (Fujimura, Sako), China (Xiao Hai), Norway (Phenom), Singapore (Xian), South Korea (Infiltration, Verloren) and the USA (NuckleDu) competing. NuckleDu, the lone player from the USA to make top 8, finished at 7th place.
Lastly, if you haven’t watched a CEO event it’s worth watching the top 8 just for the pro wrestling-style player entrances! Verloren, Infiltration, and NuckleDu’s entrance routines were stand-outs.
