Esports Festival Hong Kong 2018 Results: Japan’s CYG BST|Fuudo takes 1st Place!

PREMIER EVENT: Esports Festival Hong Kong 2018 Results

Esports Festival Hong Kong 2018, held in Wan Chai, Hong Kong from August 25th through 26th, is in the books and Japan’s CYG BST|Fuudo has taken 1st place!

This is Fuudo’s best placement of the 2018 season. His previous best was a 3rd place finish at Evo 2018 but aside from that he’s mostly finished just outside of top 8 at Premier Events. Fuudo made it all the way to Winners Finals in the Winners bracket before being sent down to losers against South Korea’s UYU|NL in a real back and forth battle with a 2-3 score. After defeating Taiwan’s UYU|Oil King 3-1, he faced off against NL once again in Grand Finals. NL took an early lead in the first set but Fuudo fought back and eventually won the first set 3-2 to reset the bracket. Fuudo would go on to defeat NL 3-1 in the second set to secure victory.

UYU|NL has been having a fantastic 2018 and it continues with his 2nd place finish at this event. He already has a Premier Event win at Combo Breaker in late May, a Ranking Event win at Saigon Cup in April and a 3rd place finish at the VSFighting Premier Event in July among other placements. NL has a knack for snatching wins when he’s at low health and in desperate situations and his abilities in the clutch continue to separate him from many other top players. His only loss here in Hong Kong was his tough two-set loss against Fuudo in Grand Finals.

Taiwan’s UYU|Oil King needed a big performance here to help secure his positioning for Capcom Cup as the number of events remaining in the 2018 season dwindles. This 3rd place finish matches his previous best at Premier Events, a 3rd place finish at Stunfest in May. Oil King was dropped into Losers bracket in a 0-3 loss to Fuudo and was finally eliminated in a runback against Fuudo in Losers Finals 1-3. With the points earned here Oil King now moves into 14th place on the Global Leaderboard with 810 total points and looks well positioned for a Capcom Cup appearance with events still remaining on the schedule to further improve.
