Final Round 2019 Results: USA’s REC|Punk takes 1st Place!

Premier Event: Final Round 2019 Results

Final Round 2019, a Premier Event held in Atlanta, GA, USA from March 15th through 17th, opened the Capcom Pro Tour season with all the hype you would expect from such a prestigious event. REC|Punk from the USA took home a hard-earned first place after an incredible run through the Losers Bracket. He was knocked into Losers Bracket all the way back in pools by Japan’s RED BULL|Gachikun, who became Capcom Cup Champion last year, and fought hard to defeat opponent after opponent until he made it to Grand Finals.

As Punk navigated through Losers Bracket, two Japanese players made their way through the Winners Bracket in impressive fashion. VICTRIX|Momochi, who became Capcom Cup Champion in 2014, delivered another incredible display of Zeku play at this event. FUDOH|Johnny, a young player who Momochi helped mentor in Japan, had the best performance of his Capcom Pro Tour career at Final Round 2019. Both players had considerable momentum and would face one another in Winners Finals. Momochi defeated Johnny 3-2 and would move on to ultimately face Punk in Grand Finals. Johnny would be eliminated by Punk in Losers Finals 2-3 and would finish with third place.

Momochi’s momentum came to a halt in Grand Finals as Punk won the first set 3-0 to reset the bracket. Although Momochi had a stronger showing in the second set, Punk ultimately came away victorious with a score of 3-1. Momochi’s second place finish at Final Round is a strong start to his season and we are sure to see more strong performances from him in the future. Congratulations to REC|Punk on his well-deserved 1st place finish at Final Round 2019!
