Super Premier Event: North American Regional Finals 2019 Results
The regular season of the Capcom Pro Tour for 2019 came to a close this weekend. North America Regional Finals 2019, held in Las Vegas, NV, USA from November 16th through 17th, is now over and the results are in! As a Regional Final this event consists of two separate tournaments. The first is an Open Event which can be entered by anyone and is scored like a Super Premier Event. The second is the Regional Final itself which is an invitation only tournament consisting of the top 8 players on the CPT North America regional leaderboard standings. No points are awarded for the Final.
TALON|HotDog29 from Hong Kong wins the Open Tournament!
Hong Kong’s TALON|HotDog29 had a great second half of the 2019 season capped off by his win here at the third Super Premier. Through August his best placement at a Premier was 17th place, just outside of top 16, although he did finish 2nd at one Ranking Event and 3rd at another. From September he took 1st place at the PPL Fighter Masters Premier in early September, 5th place at SEA Major 2019 and now 1st at North America Regional Finals. The 1,000 points awarded here catapults him all the way up to 5th place between Japan’s FUDOH|Fujimura and CYG BST|Fuudo, and that’s some quality company to be in.
HotDog29 got into Grand Finals through the Winners bracket having defeated MOUSESPORTS|Problem X from the United Kingdom in Winners Finals 3-1. When in Grand Finals he faced off against the USA’s NuckleDu, who is the Capcom Cup 2016 Champion. NuckleDu won the first set to reset the bracket 3-1. NuckleDu kept changing characters to find one that would work and had stretches of success but HotDog29 kept adapting. NuckleDu would use three different characters in Grand Finals (Guile, Cammy, G) but HotDog won the final set 3-1.
USA’s MYWALLET|NuckleDu wins Regional Final
It’s been another strong season for NuckleDu and an excellent performance here at the NA Regional Finals. He took 2nd place at the Open Tournament and in the Regional Final took 1st place with a 3-1 victory over the Global standings leader REC|Punk in Grand Finals. NuckleDu put Punk into the Losers bracket with a 3-1 win during Winners Finals. NuckleDu is looking to be at the top of his game and it’s coming at just the right time, going into Capcom Cup. He is the Capcom Cup 2016 Champion but could he be the first to repeat? Tune in to Capcom Cup in December to find out!
Since NuckleDu is already qualified for Capcom Cup due to his points on the Global Leaderboard standings, the automatic qualifying spot will be opened up for the next player on the standings via points which is RISE|Smug (See Rules for details).
