Capcom’s Top 5 Moments of EU Regional Finals

CPT Last Chance Qualifier Highlight Matches

Grand Finals – HORI|Sako vs RB|Bonchan

This was without a doubt one of the best Grand Finals matches of the season so far. What makes it more interesting is that this is the Grand Finals for the Last Chance Qualifier, in which the top 2 players qualify for the EU Regional Finals on day two. Since both players were already qualified, they were only playing for pride and prize money. What we got was a spectacular set with momentum swaying back and forth between both players. HORI|Sako won the first set (which went down to the last round of the last match), bringing RB|Bonchan down into the Losers Bracket for a reset. Sako took the 2nd set 3-1 but it was much closer and more intense than that score could ever convey. If you want to see Street Fighter 5 at its best, watch this video!

EU Regional Finals Highlight Matches

MOV vs DA|mStillDaDaddy

DA|ImStillDaDaddy from the UK was definitely one of the crowd favorites. Guile is a rare character to see in these events and even more rare to see getting into top 8. DA|ImStillDaDaddy was a Guile character loyalist in the Street Fighter 4 days and he really shows what the character is capable of in this match against Japan’s MOV. Not only does MOV play Chun-Li, a character who most would place among the top 3 characters in the game, but he is one of the world’s best Chun-Li players. What we get is an electrifying match full of some absolutely amazing play from both players.

BX3.TP-Link|Phenom vs RB|Bonchan

Time is running out for Japan’s RB|Bonchan to earn a spot at Capcom Cup 2016 and he had a great run at the EU Regional Finals, but that run came to a stop when he faced off against Norway’s BX3.TP-Link|Phenom. Bonchan played a great Nash all the way through, using the character’s dash mobility and versatile moveset with great effect. Phenom earned a Capcom Cup spot early in the year with a Premier Event win and was obviously very relaxed in this match, even cracking a wry smile when he finished Bonchan off in a match with a wakeup reversal.

Grand Finals – BST|Daigo Umehara vs BX3.TP-Link|Phenom

Compared to most of the rest of the EU Regional Finals matches, the Grand Finals was almost anti-climactic. Japan’s BST|Daigo Umehara publically admitted early in the year that it was taking time for him to adapt to Street Fighter 5 and that was evident in his CPT appearances for the first half of the season. In recent months he seems to have rediscovered his winning ways and almost made winning the EU Finals look too easy.

Congratulations to BST|Daigo Umehara, winner of the EU Regional Finals and latest Capcom Cup Qualifier!

We all knew that Daigo would make it into Capcom Cup. If not by winning a Premier Event he would almost certainly have done so with his Ranking Points. With this win at the EU Regional Finals he has earned his qualifying spot, so now he can focus on further refining his skills and perhaps earning more Ranking Points for seeding purposes. As said earlier, he only seems to be getting stronger as the year goes on.
