SEA Major 2018 – Asia Regional Final Results: Japan’s Gachikun wins Finals and UAE’s NASR|Big Bird wins Open Event!

PREMIER EVENT: SEA Major 2018 – Asia Regional Final Results

SEA Major 2018, held in Singapore from October 13th through 14th, has concluded. As a Regional Final, SEA Major is two events in one.

On Saturday, October 13th, there was an Open Tournament which is similar to a Premier Event only it also awards points on the related Regional Leaderboard (see Rules page for details). NASR|Big Bird from the United Arab Emirates earned 1st place at this event, defeating Japan’s legendary ECHO FOX|Tokido 3-2. Big Bird had 452 points and held 31st place on the Global Leaderboard prior to this event, putting him within reach but just outside of Capcom Cup range. His victory here gives him a 700 point boost, which should give him a solid position to qualify for Capcom Cup in December. It’s also interesting to note that with Big Bird’s win there will be two NASR players from the United Arab Emirates at Capcom Cup this year, with NASR|AngryBird earning a spot with his win at the EU Regional Finals at EGX 2018.

The Regional Final was held on Sunday, October 14th, and was an eight player event consisting of the top 8 players on the CPT Asia Regional Leaderboard. Japan’s Gachikun dispatched ECHO FOX|Tokido in a 3-0 win. With over 1,000 points on the Global Leaderboard prior to SEA Major, Gachikun was all but assured to be at Capcom Cup but his win here gives him an automatic qualification.

Japan’s ECHO FOX|Tokido had another outstanding performance at SEA Major coming in 2nd place at both the Open Tournament and the Regional Final. The 2nd place finish will help widen his lead as 1st place on the Global Leaderboard. It’s also interesting to note that in both events he faced a world-class Rashid player.

The end of the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour season is drawing ever closer, so it will be thrilling to see how the final standings shake up after the last few events are completed. Now let’s take a look at the full SEA Major 2018 – Asia Regional Final Results!
