TWFighter Major 2018 Results: Japan’s FAV|Sako takes 1st Place!

PREMIER EVENT: TWFighter Major 2018 Results

TWFighter Major 2018, held in Taipei City, Taiwan from August 17th through 19th, has concluded and Japan’s FAV|Sako has taken 1st place! This is Sako’s first Premier Event win of the 2018 season with his previous best being a 4th place finish at CEO in late June. He also won the Online Ranking Event Asia East One the week before CEO. Coming in 2nd place was Japan’s ECHO FOX|Tokido and RISE|Caba from the Dominican Republic took 3rd place.

FAV|Sako looked virtually unstoppable at TWFighter Major, making it to Grand Finals in Winners bracket. His match scores against opponents are incredibly one-sided besting ECHO FOX|Tokido in Grand Finals 3-0, RISE|Caba in Winners Finals 3-0, DETONATION|Itabashi Zangief in Winners Semi-Finals 3-0, ECHO FOX|Tokido in top 16 2-0, Gachikun 2-0, and ATLAS BEAR|StormKubo 2-0. Although the competition was stiffer than the scores might suggest, it does give an idea of Sako’s performance at this event. Sako’s sharing the victory spotlight with his daughter after the event was also a heart-warming moment for the family man.

You would be hard pressed to find a Street Fighter player in the world that is more consistent than ECHO FOX|Tokido. He already had a Premier Event win prior to this with a first place finish at NorCal Regionals early in the season and had a 2nd place at Final Round and Evo 2018. This 2nd place finish pushes him into 1st place on the Standings. Tokido’s only losses at this event came to Sako although he had some close calls. Japan’s DETONATION|Itabashi Zangief and his Abigail was within a round of eliminating Tokido in Losers Semi-Finals but Tokido battled back to victory.

RISE|Caba is having a breakout season and is adding to the ever-growing prestige of the Dominican Republic’s Street Fighter community. Caba made it all the way to Winners Finals before suffering his first loss to Sako and was ultimately eliminated by Tokido in Losers Finals 1-3. Caba put on a great showing at TWFighter and, along along with his other placements this year (including a top 8 finish at Evo 2018), is almost certain to be competing at Capcom Cup this December.
