PREMIER EVENT: EGX 2018 Results
EGX 2018, the first of four Regional Finals to be held at the end of the Capcom Pro Tour season, is in the books! As a Regional Final, EGX 2018 is actually two events in one. The first event is an Open Tournament event with points awarded on the Global Leaderboard like a Premier Event. The second event is the Regional Final which is an 8 person event composed of the top eight players from the Regional Leaderboard. No points are awarded for the Finals but the winner earns an automatic qualifying spot for Capcom Cup 2018 in December! See the Rules page for full details on a Regional Finals.
The winner of the EU Regional Final was NASR|AngryBird from the United Arab Emirates and he earns an automatic qualifying spot to Capcom Cup! AngryBird won his first Ranking Event earlier this month at Ultimate Fighting Arena in France. AngryBird made it to Grand Finals through the Winners bracket and defeated France’s FNATIC|Akainu 3-2 to earn 1st place.
At the Open Tournament event it was France’s BJK|Luffy that came away victorious. Luffy was put into the Losers bracket back in Top 32 with a loss to United Arab Emirates’ NASR|Big Bird 0-2. Luffy went on a terrific Losers Bracket run defeating players such as LIQUID|John Takeuchi (2-1), exceL|Infexious (3-1), FNATIC|Akainu (3-0), exceL|Brian (3-2) and Atrosh (3-0) to get to Grand Finals. Once there he defeated NVD|Momi from the Netherlands in two sets (3-2 and 3-1). Luffy’s win at EGX beats his previous best Premier Event performance of 13th place at Stunfest in May.
