PREMIER EVENT: Tokyo Game Show 2018 Results
Tokyo Game Show 2018, held in Tokyo, Japan from September 22nd through 23rd, is over and Japan’s ECHO FOX|Tokido has taken 1st place!
This is ECHO FOX|Tokido’s second Premier Event win of the 2018 season, having won NorCal Regionals early this year. Tokido was put into the Losers bracket with an 0-2 loss to Japan’s ATLAS BEAR|StormKubo in top 32. He went on a rampage through the Losers bracket defeating, among others, StormKubo in a runback in top 16 (2-0), Trashbox (3-1), UYU|Oil King (3-2), GHOST|NuckleDu (3-1) and LIQUID|Nemo in Losers Finals (3-1). In Grand Finals he faced off against fellow Japanese veteran CYG BST|Fuudo and defeated him 3-0 to reset the bracket then went on to win the second set 3-0 as well. This win puts Tokido at the top of the Global Leaderboard in points and in a prime position for Capcom Cup.
Japan’s CYG BST|Fuudo added a 2nd place finish to his growing 2018 season resume’. He already has a Premier Event win under his belt at Esports Festival Hong Kong in August. He was in a prime position to add another win to his belt, getting all the way to Grand Finals in the Winners bracket. He just had no answer for Tokido and lost back to back sets to earn runner-up at the event.
With the season winding down there is a scramble for points to solidify a spot at Capcom Cup later this year and Japan’s LIQUID|Nemo’s 3rd place finish here does just that. Nemo got all the way to Winners Finals before taking his first loss to Fuudo 0-3 and was finally eliminated by Tokido in Losers Finals 1-3.
