Canada Cup 2016 Results
Canada Cup 2016, the last Premier Event of the 2016 Capcom Pro Tour season to award Ranking Points, is now over and the results are in! USA’s Liquid|NuckleDu has taken 1st place and has earned himself a qualifying spot to Capcom Cup! China’s Qanba Douyu|Xiao Hai, who won SoCal Regionals recently, took 2nd place and Norway’s BX3.TP-Link|Phenom took 3rd place. Canada Cup 2016 took place in Toronto, Canada from October 28th through 30th. Now here are the full Canada Cup 2016 Results!

Highlights from Canada Cup 2016
Canada Cup 2016 was the last Premier Event to award Ranking Points, and as such it was a very important event for several players who were on the bubble for having enough points to qualify for Capcom Cup. The competition was fierce, and what we got was arguably one of the most exciting events of the year to watch.
Here are just a few of the many great moments from Canada Cup 2016. Below we will delve a bit deeper and highlight several specific matches which stood out at the event! Capcom’s Top 5 Moments of Canada Cup 2016
Top 32 Winners: RZR|Infiltration vs EG|K-Brad
One of the bigger surprises of Canada Cup 2016 is that Korea’s RZR|Infiltration failed to break into top 8 again. It’s only noteworthy because he seemed unstoppable until recently. In this match he played against the USA’s EG|K-Brad, who has been performing at a higher level in recent weeks, and was defeated 2-1. K-Brad finished the event at 9th place. Infiltration would go on to be eliminated by Japan’s BST|Daigo Umehara 2-0 and would finish 13th. Is Infiltration saving his best for Capcom Cup? We will see.
Top 32 Winners: BST|Daigo Umehara vs Liquid|NuckleDu
Japan’s BST|Daigo Umehara has admitted himself that it was taking more time to adjust to Street Fighter 5 than anticipated but he has made obvious progress in the last few months. In this match he faced off against Liquid|NuckleDu, who is one of the USA’s best players at this point in time.
Top 8 Losers: RB|Bonchan vs /r/Kappa|John Takeuchi
Japan’s RB|Bonchan, like Daigo, has been working to adapt to Street Fighter 5 but in Bonchan’s case it came down to the character he plays. He started the season playing Ryu and the results were sub-par. A few months ago he switched to Nash and what a difference it made. He doesn’t have enough Ranking Points to qualify for Capcom Cup that way, so he’s hungry for a Premier win go get in. He played exceptionally well at Canada Cup but his run ended against the Rashid playing phenom from Japan, /r/Kappa|Takeuchi, in a thrilling match you can see below. Takeuchi, only 18 years old and a recent arrival on the Capcom Pro Tour, is very popular due to his being arguably the world’s best Rashid player, a character which is very rare to see at high level tournament play. His enthusiasm and very visible love for the game also endears him to fans, but he’s just so exciting to watch!
Top 8 Losers: BX3.TP-Link|Phenom vs /r/Kappa|John Takeuchi
One of the few Europeans to go to Canada Cup and the only one to make top 8, Norway’s BX3.TP-Link|Phenom was sent to the Losers bracket early by USA’s RN|Alex Myers. Since then he seemed to represent his chosen character, Necalli, taking out one top opponent after another, sometimes in dominating fashion. In top 8 he defeated BST|Daigo Umehara 3-0, RN|Alex Myers 3-0 in a runback, and /r/Kappa|John Takeuchi 3-1.
Losers Finals: Qanba Douyu|Xiao Hai vs BX3.TP-Link|Phenom
BX3.TP-Link|Phemon’s reign of terror was finally ended in Losers Finals by China’s Qanba Douyu|Xiao Hi, who has been one of the consistently best players in the 2016 Capcom Pro Tour season. Xiao Hi was only put into Losers at Winners Finals in a close match against Liquid|NuckleDu. He would then end BX3.TP-Link|Phenom’s amazing run in the match shown below, to face off against NuckleDu once more in Grand Finals.
Grand Finals: Liquid|NuckleDu vs Qanba Douyu|Xiao Hai
USA’s Liquid|NuckleDu was the one that sent Qanba Douyu|Xiao Hai to Losers. During that initial set, NuckleDu started off using Guile, felt that it wasn’t in his favor, then switched to R.Mika. Since that switch it seemed as though Xiao Hai couldn’t find an answer to NuckleDu’s patient R.Mika play, which focused on normals and great spacing and then exploiting an opening to generate the mix-ups and big damage R.Mika is known for. In the Grand Finals runback, NuckleDu went right to R.Mika again. Xiao Hai’s play in the Grand Finals seemed more aggressive, perhaps trying to disrupt that patient strategy that NuckleDu used so effectively in Winners Finals. Xiao Hai wasn’t successful, and NuckleDu went on to win Grand Finals 3-0.

Liquid|NuckleDu has always been one of the coolest, most composed players you would ever see. At even the highest pressure situation he walks up to his station as if he’s on a Sunday stroll in the park. Between matches he never seems anything but completely relaxed. After a match, regardless of result, he walks away the same way. He’s calm and collected, has top tier reflexes and execution as well as being a very smart player. With Street Fighter 5 he’s also got three characters (Nash, R.Mika and Guile), all of which are played at the highest level. These 3 characters all fulfill different roles, allowing NuckleDu to select the character which gives him the best chance to win any given situation. He would have qualified for Capcom Cup 2016 on Ranking Points alone, but now he’s earned an automatic qualifying spot with this win.
