Japan’s Tokido proves once again why he is one of the best players in the world, and arguably the best Ryu player. He has won his 2nd Premier Event of the 2016 Capcom Pro Tour season. He already qualified for Capcom Cup by winning CEO 2016, so there will be no player qualifying for Capcom Cup from this event. According to the 2016 CPT Rules, another spot will open up to qualify via Ranking Points. Japan’s EG|Momochi took 2nd place and HM|Eita, also from Japan, took 3rd. Capcom’s Top 5 Moments of South East Major 2016

RZR|Infiltration Eliminated before Top 8

Korea’s RZR|Infiltration looked unstoppable at the start of the 2016 Capcom Pro Tour season. In a stroke of luck for other players on the tour, he hasn’t been participating in any Premier Events after Evolution in July, giving others a chance to earn those valuable qualifying spots to Capcom Cup 2016. At South East Major 2016 he took 9th place, which is very uncharacteristic for him. He also took 13th place at Brooklyn Beatdown the prior weekend, a non CPT event, but he used Balrog for that tournament so we can explain that away to experimentation. At SEAM 2016, however, he used his main character Nash. This event could be an anomaly, or perhaps other top players are adapting to his dash in and out style of Nash play. We will see what happens as the season continues.

RZR|Infiltration’s Pupils: NL and XYZZY

Two of the bigger surprises at SEAM 2016 was the performance of Korea’s NL and XYZZY. Both players had RZR|Infiltration acting as their coach during their matches, supporting them and giving them advice. NL has a solid Ryu that isn’t flashy but is very technical. XYZZY is at the other end of the spectrum, with a Birdie that is relentless and smothering. Neither player has taken a top 16 in a Capcom Pro Tour event before SEAM 2016 and it will be exciting to watch what they do going forward. For now, we will feature a match from each player. In the videos below, XYZZY defeats China’s Qanba Douyu|Xiao Hai and NL gets a convincing win over Japan’s YOUDEAL MJS|Haitini, both considered among the world’s best players.

Grand Finals: EG|Momochi vs Tokido

Grand Finals was between EG|Momochi and Tokido, both from Japan and both widely regarded to be among the very best players in the world. It was Tokido who put Momochi into the Losers Bracket 3-2 in Winners Finals and it would be Tokido who would come out on top once again in Grand Finals.

Congratulations once again to Tokido, SEAM 2016 winner!

Tokido has had a fantastic 2016 Capcom Pro Tour season. He hasn’t placed less than 3rd place at a Premier Event all year, although he did take 13th at Evolution. He has already earned his qualification to Capcom Cup 2016 by winning CEO 2016 in June, so now he’s playing for other reasons, whether it’s to hone his skills, to earn more Ranking Points to get a better seeding position at Capcom Cup, or perhaps both. He’s a thrilling player to watch and it’s a great thing for all involved to know that he will be competing in Capcom Cup at the end of the year!
